Welcome to Franklin!

Whether you've lived here your whole life, just moved here, or are thinking about making Franklin your home, we’re glad you're here.

This valley has been home to people for centuries. Long before there was a Town of Franklin, this was the site of the Cherokee town of Noquisiyi (ᏃᏈᏏᏱ). Today, the Cherokee people remain an important part of our community and our region. The Noquisi Mound, which stands at the site of the historic Cherokee town and is now owned and protected by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, reminds us that this history is not just something to remember. It is something that continues today.

The families who settled these mountains later added another chapter to Franklin's story. Generation after generation of Appalachian people built homes, churches, farms, schools, and businesses here. They passed along traditions, music, stories, and even a few words that still find their way into everyday conversation. If someone tells you it's just over yonder or says they'll get to it dreckly, don't worry. Bless your heart, you'll catch on. More importantly, I hope you'll discover that our Appalachian accent is matched by the warmth behind it.

Franklin is known for its mountains, rivers, trails, and downtown, and I'm proud of all of those things. But if you ask me what makes this town special, my answer is simple. It's the people.

We're the kind of place where neighbors still help neighbors. We volunteer. We support local businesses. We celebrate together. Sometimes we disagree. Then we run into each other at the grocery store, a ball game, or a local restaurant, we shake hands, and we keep moving forward together. That's one of the things I love most about living here.

I believe local government works best when it's open, accessible, and focused on serving people. My job isn't just to represent the Town. It's to listen, to bring people together, and to help move Franklin forward while protecting the character that makes it feel like home.

Franklin will continue to grow and change. That's inevitable. My hope is that we grow in a way that creates opportunity, supports our small businesses, protects the things that make this place special, and leaves an even better community for the next generations.

Thank you for being part of Franklin. Whether, like me, you have generations of family here or you're just beginning your story here, I hope you'll find ways to get involved, share your ideas, and help shape the future of our town. Franklin has always been at its best when people step forward and work together.

It is truly an honor to serve as your mayor.

Sincerely,

Mayor Stacy J. Guffey
