Meet Town Clerk Travis Tallent
Travis Tallent has served as Town Clerk/Human Resource Officer since December 19, 2016. Mr. Tallent is a native of Franklin, NC where he graduated from Franklin High School in 2004. He attended Western Carolina University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science with a minor in History. In 2012, he earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from WCU.
Mr. Tallent previously interned with the Town of Franklin before becoming employed by Mountain Projects, Inc. in Waynesville, NC where he served as a Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Case Manager. He became employed by the Town of Franklin in December of 2014 in their wastewater department as an operator. He obtained a grade 3 wastewater certification before he was hired as Town Clerk and Human Resource Officer.
The Town Clerk assists the Town Manager with the preparation of materials, agenda, and other written documents for Board meetings as needed. The Clerk is responsible for adhering to the State’s open meetings and public records laws (NCGS 143 and NCGS Chapter 132 ) The Clerk also attends Town Council and Planning Board meetings, takes minutes, files records and minutes as required by laws. The Clerk also maintains the minute books and other official documents according to state archive requirements for the Town Council and Planning Board, in addition to maintaining and codifying the Town of Franklin Code of Ordinances on an ongoing basis. The Clerk provides a wide variety of information to employees and citizens regarding Town of Franklin records and ordinances.
